Why we are celebrate a Holi.
History of Holi
In the pre-Christian era, there lived a demon king named Hiranyakashyap in ancient India.
He wanted to avenge his younger brother's death. Bhai, also a demon, was killed by Lord Vishnu, one of the highest trio, monitoring life and death in the universe (according to Hindu belief).
To take Vishnu, the tyrannical king wanted to be the king of heaven, earth and hell. He underwent severe austerities and prayers for many years to gain sufficient strength. In the end, he was given a boon.
Driven by the boon, Hiranyakashipu thought he had become invincible. Arrogant, he ordered everyone in his kingdom to worship God in his place. However, the demon king had a very young son, named Prahlada. He was an ardent devotee of Vishnu. Despite his father's orders, Prahlada continued to pray to Vishnu. Hence the demon king wanted to kill his son. He asked for the favor of his sister Holika, who was immune to the fire due to a boon.
He planned that Prahlada would be burnt to death. A pyre was lit and Holika sat on it, and caught Prahlada. Nevertheless, Prahlada finally faints from the fire, and Holika, the demon, is burnt to ashes. Dedication and complete dedication to Lord Vishnu is dedicated to Prahlada. Thus was the victory of Prahlada, the representative of good spirits.
And the defeat of Holika, the representative of evil. Later, Even the demon king Hiranyakashyap was killed by Lord Vishnu. But that's quite a different story. Holi originated from Holika itself.
This legend is still celebrated today on the eve of Holi when the pyre is lit again as a bonfire. Even today people celebrate this occasion. In order to ignite the spirit of evils, huge bonfire is lit every year on the full moon night of Holi. Hence the story associated with the soul of the festival.
